Calendar, weather: With iOS 17, Apple wants to turn your locked iPhone into a connected display

With the next update from Apple, iPhones will be able to show certain elements, such as the calendar or notifications, with the locked screen.

The locked screen of your iPhone could well become a very connected interface thanks to the upcoming iOS 17 update. The iPhone could display multiple data.

Calendar, notifications, weather: various elements will be displayed on the screen, only when the iPhone is locked and, above all, in a horizontal position (in an accessory that Apple will soon offer?). Elements should be displayed on a dark background, with lighter text elements, similar to widgets displayed by swiping right on the wallpaper.

Already developed by Google and Amazon

However, this connected screen system, even locked, is not an Apple innovation. For several years, Google and Amazon have offered the same system on their dedicated home devices. Apple wants to catch up and might even release other dedicated connected home devices in the future, such as tablets to control your various devices.

Announcements about this future connected screen for iPhone should be made on June 5, during WWDC, Apple’s annual developer conference. In addition to the innovations in iOS 17 and new features for Mac, it is above all the presentation of the “Reality Pro” mixed reality headset that arouses all curiosity. Apple’s future headphones would be the star of the event. The iOS 17 update should take place at the end of 2023.
