The Japanese video game giant Nintendo announced on Wednesday that it would end its activities in Russia, where it had already reduced its operations last year like other companies in its sector after the invasion of Ukraine by troops from Moscow.
Nintendo had already suspended shipments to Russia in March 2022, a measure announced at the time as temporary. His online store was also unavailable from that date due to the suspension of ruble transactions by his payment service provider.
Nintendo follows Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts…
The group based in Kyoto (western Japan) specifies that Russian customers with a Nintendo account will still be able to re-download digital content that they had already purchased, but that it was no longer possible to create a new account.
Nintendo’s compatriot and gaming rival Sony also announced last year that it would suspend shipments of games and consoles to Russia, joining “the global community in its call for peace in Ukraine,” it said at the time.
Other large video game companies such as Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Niantic or Take-Two had also announced similar measures to suspend their activities in Russia.
