iOS 16: more than 80% of iPhones have adopted it

Apple has announced that 90% of iPhones in the last four years have switched to the latest iOS 16 update.

A few days before introducing iOS 17, which will bring its share of new features to Apple devices, the American brand welcomed the adoption of the previous version of its operating system.

Most iPhone 11-14 users have switched to iOS 16 since its release last fall (90% of devices).

Available in particular for the iPhone 8 and later, the Apple operating system is even installed on 81% of all compatible devices. This is up slightly from last year at the same time when there were 89% of iPhones released in the previous four years that had updated to iOS 15. But its latest operating system at the time had started poorly with just the 63% of iPhones with made the switch four months after it became available (72% of devices in the last four years as of January 2022).

Most users opt for automatic updates

At Apple, we should especially congratulate ourselves on such a rapid adoption that makes it possible to much more secure the iPhones in circulation. The various updates released over time, in particular iOS 16.4.1 which strengthened many security points (last update: iOS 16.5), are now mostly automatically rolled out to products, we observed at Apple. It must be said that lately an effort has been made to make them more detailed and precise in terms of the content to come (just click on the detail of the proposed update). But also leaving the possibility for users of older devices to stay on the previous version while benefiting from dedicated improvements.

Updates help stabilize devices and bring new features like Freeform, the home app as a whiteboard to write down and organize everything, or even bursts of new emoji.

Next week, during WWDC, Tim Cook and his family should reveal the new features that will be included in the next version of iOS 17. This one does not seem the most revolutionary, but it should strengthen many already integrated features (Apple Music, Calendar ), but also check in particular the iPhone locked screen.
