Virtual reality is well known today. But the technology that Facebook and its metaverse made famous in the eyes of the general public did not have a secure future in the early 2000s. Thus, after Apple’s announcements and the presentation of its first mixed reality headsets, many Internet users have wondered what Steve Jobs would have thought of such a product.
Very quickly, a video of the founder of Apple resurfaced on social networks. In this short passage of about thirty seconds, dating from 2005, Steve Jobs appears to be giving a lecture. The excerpt shows him extolling the merits of the headphones, which he considers “miraculous.”
“Huge Glasses”
What made netizens react is the rest of the message. According to the Apple founder, at that time there was nothing you could take with you that could offer an experience similar to that of a 50-inch plasma TV at home.
It was then that the speaker told him that there were “huge glasses”, in reference to the first models of virtual reality helmets. The opinion of Steve Jobs is then decided: “but they are mediocre”. The crowd there burst into laughter.
But 18 years later, Apple presented a mixed reality headset model at its WWDC 23 conference that combines a virtual and augmented experience.
