A preliminary investigation was opened on May 30, in particular for extortion by organized gangs, following a cyberattack in mid-May against the French agency Voyageurs du Monde, the Paris prosecutor’s office said, confirming information from Franceinfo.
The investigation was entrusted to the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie (DGGN), in conjunction with the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ).
The investigations relate to various charges, including the fraudulent entry or even fraudulent modification of data into an automated data processing (STAD) system.
“Affected customers will be notified”
“In-depth analysis of our data, which required several days of work, indicates that certain passport data was stolen and published” on May 30, Voyageurs du Monde said in a press release that same day, specifying that there were ” refused to pay a ransom.”
“The information published by our attacker is very limited,” the group also said, assuring that the attack affected “2% of customers.”
“Interested customers will be informed directly knowing that biometric data, which is kept confidential, guarantees their security,” the travel agency continued.
