On the occasion of its worldwide developer conference, Apple introduced a small number of new products and software. Along with new computers and a long-awaited but also very expensive mixed reality headset, the company introduced iOS 17, the new version of its iPhone operating system.
New to iOS 17 is SharePlay, a feature that lets you listen to and view content remotely using the FaceTime app. SharePlay will now be available for CarPlay, Apple’s car-compatible device.
Glory to blind tests
From now on, during a car trip, all iOS 17 users will be able to choose the playlist simultaneously with their device. A way to get everyone to agree on the choice of music… or to make the blind tests on the road even more epic. To do this, you’ll need to activate the option in CarPlay, and all iPhone owners will just need to respond to the sharing proposal notification.
In addition to this option, SharePlay will allow, during a FaceTime call, to share live content -music, movies or series- with all the participants in the call, even from a distance. Of course, several conditions must be met to benefit from it: a compatible iPhone and the necessary subscription to view the content. CarPlay also requires having a compatible car – the list of vehicles in question can be found here, but may be subject to change with this new update.
iOS 17 and its new features should be available to all iPhone users (except certain older models) in the fall of 2023. In addition to SharePlay, iOS 17 also offers Messages, widgets, and even improved features to prevent phone calls.
