At the age of 20, the creator of a new school social network, ExtraStudent, has raised 1.5 million euros from various big bosses and business angels, including Michaël Benabou (ex-Veepee) and former minister Benjamin Griveaux, his wife told AFP. founder, Jules Simiand Brocherie.
During the lockdown, while still at Terminale in Neuilly, the young entrepreneur created a school mutual aid site for high school and university students so they could share their lessons and review sheets, a response to the risk of dropping out.

Given the success of the site, he decided to create a social network that wants to be a “LinkedIn for high school and university students”: ExtraStudent, which combines the exchange of courses and the presentation of schools, as a permanent virtual orientation fair. It is the schools that bring in turnover, paying to use the site as a showcase for their training. High school students and students who share course files are encouraged by a rating and like system.
ExtraStudent, which is already of interest to several ministries, fills a gap: apart from some paid review sites, such as Cartable, certain forums or some star teachers or students on social networks, high school and university students are generally content with exchange between classmates on Discord or WhatsApp groups.
“I started a degree in commerce and data, which I quickly left because I fell in love with my project,” says Jules Simiand Brocherie. Decorated with the Order of Merit by the prefect of Hauts-de-Seine for his first visit, the young man knocked on several doors.

“I did the Colegio Ciudadano (a new political science school, free, that receives prestigious speakers, editor’s note) and I ended up going to see speakers,” he says. On a set he meets a young businesswoman who turns out to be the daughter of Michaël Benabou, co-founder of Veepee (ex-Vente-privée.com). The businessman will be the first investor in it.
One thing led to another, also with a loan from Bpifrance, others followed, such as Pascal Chevalier, founder of Reworld Media, Carlo Purassanta, former head of Microsoft France, and Adrien Montfort, co-founder of Sorare (digital soccer player cards). ).
The father of ExtraStudent has recruited several successful young content creators, including Luca Lescop, founder of the Fast Infos outlet, François Mari, founder of Elyze, the voting assistance app that was a hit during the 2022 presidential election, and Mathilde Fouqué, the young creator of school content very popular on Instagram. With already 100,000 users, ExtraStudent has 5 employees and is targeting 10 by the end of 2023. Target: one million users by 2025.
