Boris Johnson was hired by the Daily Mail

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson was taken on as editor for the Conservative tabloid Daily Mail this Friday, but if his political future is uncertain, his career in the media after his departure from the British Parliament seems assured.

A week after announcing his resignation as an MP following a parliamentary report finding him guilty of lying to parliament and accusing him of attacking democracy, the Daily Mail wrote on the front page that he a mysterious “new science columnist”, whose words were expected “in Westminster and around the world”.

If Boris Johnson’s political future may seem uncertain, his media career is assured, as the former prime minister was today hired as editor by the British tabloid Daily Mail, a return to journalism itself controversial, France Press agency reports.

At the end of the day, the Daily Mail newspaper confirmed what seemed obvious: “I was talking about Boris Johnson, who will publish an editorial in his columns every Saturday from this week”.

In a video published on the newspaper’s website, Boris Johnson promises: “I will say exactly what I think” and talk “as little as possible” about politics.

The new activity will give him a lot of media visibility as he launched an open war against his successor Rishi Sunak and did not rule out the possibility of a return.

It will also provide a comfortable source of income for Boris Johnson, who turns 59 on Monday, is about to have his eighth child and has just bought a country house near Oxford.

The British press says Boris will earn several hundred thousand euros a year, without quantifying the amount, adding up the millions he has made in the conferences he has given since leaving Downing Street.

However, his nomination has already been criticized by the committee charged with overseeing the private appointments of those elected, to avoid conflicts of interest, and the committee stated that it was “not notified in time” to issue an opinion bring, according to AFP news. .

A spokesman for Boris Johnson said he was “in contact” with the commission – which cannot impose sanctions – and that “normal procedures” had been followed.

Before turning to politics as Mayor of London and in various governments, Boris Johnson started as a trainee journalist at The Times thanks to family ties.

In 1989 he became a Brussels correspondent for the Daily Telegraph, criticizing European institutions, before becoming a political columnist in London for the Conservative newspaper and magazine The Spectator.
