A bronze sword more than 3,000 years old has been unearthed in southern Germany, according to local authorities. The protector.
The sword, found in such good condition that it “almost still shines”, dates from the late 14th century BC (Middle Bronze Age) and was unearthed last week during excavations in Nördlingen.
According to the state agency responsible for the preservation of historical monuments (BLFD), the sword has an octagonal hilt and was found in a grave where the bodies of three people were found: a man, a woman and a boy.
“The sword and burial still need to be studied so that our archaeologists can classify this discovery with more precision. But we can already say that its conservation status is extraordinary. A find like this is very rare,” says Professor Mathias Pfeil. and director of the BLFD.
