UK: Nottingham attack suspect brought before judge and detained

An attack left three dead and three injured on Tuesday in Nottingham city centre. This had been sealed.

A 31-year-old man, suspected of being the perpetrator of the attack on Tuesday in Nottingham (central England) that left three dead, stabbed and three injured, was brought before a judge this Saturday and taken into custody.

Identified the day before by police as Valdo Calocane, he appeared before the Nottingham court judge under another identity, as Adam Mendes. He was then able to confirm his date of birth and his homeless status. At this first hearing he was not asked whether or not he acknowledged the charges against him.

Police on Friday charged the former Nottingham University student with triple murder and three attempted murders, with no charges indicating a terrorist motive.

Great excitement in the country

Two 19-year-old students, Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, along with a 65-year-old school worker, Ian Coates, were stabbed to death in the attack that occurred early Tuesday morning and resulted in the lockdown of downtown the city for long hours.

Three other people were injured, hit by a van located shortly after a little over a kilometer and aboard which the suspect had been detained by the police.

The attack has aroused great emotion and thousands of people have gathered in recent days for vigils and tributes in honor of the victims in Nottingham.
