An earthquake was registered this Monday off the southern coast of Myanmar (formerly Burma) and was also felt in Thailand, with no significant damage data.
The 5.1-magnitude quake struck about 152 kilometers south of Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, at a depth of 10 kilometers at 8:10 a.m. (2:40 a.m. in Lisbon), according to local authorities. .
Thailand’s meteorology department said the quake had a magnitude of 6 and was felt in the capital Bangkok and neighboring Nonthaburi province, about 450 km from the epicenter.
The US Geological Survey measured the quake at a magnitude of 5.6.
Different agencies often have different preliminary measures for earthquakes.
There is no information so far of significant damage or casualties.
