Two concerts by British musician Roger Waters, scheduled for next year in Krakow, Poland, have been canceled by the organization due to the artist’s positioning in relation to the war in Ukraine, reports Efe.
The 79-year-old musician was due to perform in Krakow next April, at the “Tauron Arena” concert hall, but according to some Polish media, the Polish authorities are planning to declare Roger Waters a “persona non grata”.
However, the Pink Floyd co-founder has already written on his social media that he was not the one who canceled the two concerts.
It is Roger Waters’ position on the war between Russia and Ukraine, as he attributes responsibility for the start of the war to Ukrainian ‘extremist nationalists’.
The British musician also criticizes NATO and the West for supplying arms to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, deputies from Poland’s ultra-conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party are calling for a resolution, to be voted on Wednesday, to declare a “persona non grata” to anyone who publicly supports the Kremlin.
The initiators of this proposal express their outrage at Waters’ position, given “the Russian criminal attack on Ukraine and the war crimes committed by Russian soldiers”.
In a Facebook post today, Roger Waters wrote that the initiative of the Polish MPs is due to their efforts to “engage everyone involved in the disastrous war in Ukraine, especially the United States and Russia, in the search for a negotiated peace”.
The musician also classified the cancellation of the two concerts as “draconian censorship”, referring that he “looked forward to being able to share his message of love with the Polish public”.
