The submarine is designed to take tourists to where the wreck of the Titanic is reported missing in the Atlantic Ocean this Monday.
The vehicle disappeared with five people on board, a spokesman for the US Coast Guard told the British newspaper The Guardian on Monday.
According to the source, “a small submarine with five people on board disappeared near the wreck of the Titanic”.
The British BBC and American CBS television were the first to report the submarine’s disappearance, but still without any information on the number of missing persons.
The company responsible for underwater travel to the Titanic wreck, OceanGate Expeditions, has already confirmed that one of its vehicles is missing and that people were on board.

“We are doing everything we can to land the crew safely,” company officials said, noting that “the crew members and their families are the main focus.”
The company said it has received “extensive assistance” from various government agencies and other companies in an effort to reestablish contact with the submarine.
The cruise ship Titanic sank in 1912, after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage between Southampton and New York, with about 2,220 passengers on board, including more than 1,500 who lost their lives.
OceanGate Expeditions organizes eight-day underwater trips to the ship’s wreck – which was discovered in 1985 and lies at the bottom of the ocean, 3,800 meters from the surface and 640 kilometers from the Canadian island of Newfoundland – charging about US$250,000 (229 thousand euros) for each passenger. It is the only company to have a submarine called “Titan” capable of reaching the bottom of the ocean to get a close look at the wreckage of the “Titanic”.
The company had recently announced on its website and social media that an expedition to view the wreckage of the “Titanic” was underway.
On June 14, the company said on Twitter that it was using the Starlink communications company to keep the line of communication open with the expedition on its way to the “Titanic.”
