The commander of the Navy Underground Squad, Baptista Pereira, explains in the TSF that the Titan submersible, which disappeared this Sunday morning in the North Atlantic, is accompanied by “a support ship” -Polar Prince- and that communication between the two was lost, showing that “something was not going well”.
The OceanGate submarine, capable of reaching a depth of 4,000 meters, performs “a very complex dive.”
“This complexity comes from hydrostatic pressure (…) We are talking about 400 kilos of pressure per square centimeter,” says Baptista Pereira, adding that it is a “long and slow immersion to reach these depths, since it is also longing come back to the surface.”
The commander details that in military submarines there is “some communication capacity”, but “it is quickly lost” when going into deep immersion.
