O influencer British Andrew Tate, his brother and two women were charged with human trafficking and rape six months after their arrest in Romania.
The Anti-Organized Crime Unit (DIICOT) “ordered the prosecution” of the four defendants for crimes such as “establishment of an organized crime group, human trafficking and rape”..
Romanian police arrested Tate, 36, and his brother Tristan, 34, and two Romanian women late last year. They were initially held in pre-trial detention and placed under house arrest at the end of March.
“It was confirmed that the four defendants formed an organized criminal group for the practice of human trafficking in Romania in early 2021, but also in other countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom,” DIICOT said in a statement.
In addition to human trafficking and rape, the four are also accused of “unlawfully accessing a computer system, altering the integrity of computer data, inciting aggression or other forms of violence”.
DIICOT says the brothers and their accomplices allegedly trafficked, recruited and exploited women and forced them into “pornographic acts for the purpose of producing and distributing this material online.”
As part of the investigation, Romanian police searched several properties associated with the Tate brothers and seized assets, including a collection of luxury cars.
Former kickboxer Andrew Tate, a citizen of the United States and the United Kingdom, moved to Romania a few years ago. In 2016, Tate appeared on reality show “Big Brother” in the UK, but was pulled after a video surfaced of him attacking a woman.
