‘If you want to stay alive, run away’: Zelensky addresses Russians in video message

In a video message sent on Thursday afternoon, the Ukrainian president challenged the Russian people, suggesting that they return to Russia so they can lead a normal life.

“Fight for your freedom.” With these words Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Russians in a video message broadcast on Thursday afternoon. As Vladimir Putin prepares to ratify the annexation of several Ukrainian territories to Russia this Friday, the Ukrainian president preferred to address the Russian people to ask for an end to the fighting.

“I’ll say it again for those who only understand Russian. If you want to stay alive, run away! If you want to stay alive, surrender! If you want to stay alive, fight, but fight in your streets, for your freedom,” he says. in the video message, broadcast on social networks.

“What are you fighting for?”

The purpose of this message: to challenge the Russian people by pointing out the advantages they could gain by giving up the fight: “They took everything from you. Perhaps some of you have your own oil rigs? Your palaces? Your vineyards? Or maybe… your yachts? your bank?

“What are they fighting for? All they have is loans, something to eat at night and now mobilization. Stay away from our territory! Stay away from our lives and our culture… Glory to Ukraine!” Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday.

This Friday, Vladimir Putin, the leaders of the occupied Ukrainian regions and the representatives of the separatist republics will have to ratify the embargo of these territories. If the international community is unlikely to recognize these annexations, the Kremlin chief will give a speech in which he is expected to celebrate what he sees as a victory.
