At least 19 killed in suicide bombing at Kabul student center

At least 19 people were killed in a suicide bombing this morning at an educational center in a Shiite area of ​​Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, a police spokesman said.

“Students were preparing for an exam when a man blew himself up in this educational center. Unfortunately, 19 people were killed and 27 others were injured,” Afghan police spokesman Khalid Zadran said.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the center hosted students preparing for college entrance exams in Afghanistan.

“Attacking civilian targets demonstrates the enemy’s inhuman cruelty and lack of moral standards,” Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafy Takor said.

Videos posted on social media and photos published by the local press show bloodied victims being evacuated from the blast site.

On April 20, at least six people were killed and 24 injured in two explosions that hit a boys’ school also in Dasht-e-Barchi, a district in the west of the capital whose residents are mostly from the Hazara ethnic minority. .

Dasht-e-Barchi has been hit in recent years and since the return to power of the Taliban by several attacks claimed by the regional branch of the Islamic State group, which considers the Hazaras to be heretics for following the Shiite branch of the Muslim religion.

In May 2021, a series of explosions also occurred outside a girls’ school in the same district, killing 85 people, mostly young students, and injuring more than 300.
