Ukraine: Moscow will consider any attack on annexed territories as an attack on Russia

Just before the annexation treaties of the occupied and separatist Ukrainian territories are ratified, Russia declares that any attack against them would be considered an “act of aggression”.

As Vladimir Putin prepares to deliver a long speech after the ratification of the annexation of part of the Ukrainian territories by Russia this Friday, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, is clear: any attack perpetrated by Ukraine on the regions in issue will be considered an “act of aggression” against the Russians.

“Moscow will consider any possible Ukrainian attack on the territories to be annexed to the Russian Federation as an act of aggression against Russia,” he said, the Russian Gazeta.ru news site reported on Friday.

A “bulky” speech to come

This Friday afternoon, starting at 3:00 p.m. (local time), the Russian president, the representatives of the occupied regions of Ukraine and the leaders of the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk will have to ratify the annexation treaties to Russia of these territories.

According to Dmitri Peskov, this speech promises to be “voluminous”. An announcement that comes after the organization of annexation “referendums” in the four regions of Ukraine controlled in part by Moscow, Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as Kherson and Zaporizhia in the south.

Referendums qualified in particular by Kyiv as “simulacra”, the annexation has already been played beforehand. As for Westerners, they have already announced that they would not acknowledge these attachments.
