The unemployment rate fell in August to 6.6% in the eurozone and 6.0% in the European Union (EU), compared to the same month in 2021, according to Eurostat.
In August 2021, the unemployment rate had reached 7.5% in the countries of the single currency and 6.8% in the EU average, according to the European statistical service.
Compared to July, the unemployment rate remained stable in both areas, with a total of 12,921 million unemployed in the Member States as a whole, of which 10,966 million in the eurozone.
Spain (12.4%), Greece (12.2%) and Cyprus (8.6%) registered the highest unemployment rates in August, being the Czech Republic (2.4%), Malta (2.9%) and Germany (3.0%) those that registered the highest lowest
In Portugal, the unemployment rate in August was 6.0%, stable compared to July and below the 6.3% of the same month of the previous year.
