Yevgeny Prigojine finally had the head of Sergei Shoigu and Valeri Guerassimov? Twenty-four hours after his abortive armed rebellion against Moscow, questions remain about the agreement reached between the leader of the Wagner paramilitary group and the Kremlin.
As his troops marched on the capital, Wagner’s strongman turned on Saturday night and ordered his men to “return” to their camps. According to the Kremlin, an agreement has been negotiated, thanks to the mediation of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. According to information transmitted by the Kremlin, Evgeny Prigokhine will leave for Belarus, and he and his men will not be prosecuted for this rebellion.
invective and insults
But, according to many experts, the fate of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valeri Guerassimov, must have weighed in the balance.
For several months, Evgeny Prigojine has multiplied the insults and invectives against them and calls for their resignation. While he was trapped on the Bakhmout front, Yevgeny Prigojine had even threatened to withdraw troops from him. “The attempts of the Defense Ministry in the information field to dilute the situation are leading and will lead to a global tragedy for Russia,” he said in May, adding that “we must immediately stop lying.”
“There is a crime called ‘the destruction of the Russian people’ (…) And that is what a small group is doing,” he said again, pointing to the General Staff. “Why can’t the state defend the country?”
As Patrick Sauce, foreign policy columnist for BFMTV, advances this Sunday morning, according to US intelligence, the concluded agreement would therefore include “the head of Shoigu and Guerassimov, which Prigojine wanted.”
Soon to be replaced?
in chains Telegram Close to the Kremlin, whose speculations must be taken with caution, Alexeï Dioumine, governor of the Toubla oblast, could replace Sergueï Choïgou in the Defense Ministry.
Rumors also point to a possible appointment of General Sergei Surovikin as the new Chief of the General Staff of the Russian armies instead of Valeri Guerassimov. The latter had also replaced him as commander-in-chief of the military operations in Ukraine.
