Report attributes Nord Stream pipeline leaks to strong TNT explosions

The four leaks in the Nord Stream pipelines are due to underwater explosions corresponding to hundreds of kilograms of TNT, concludes an official report from Sweden and Denmark presented this Friday to the United Nations.

“The magnitude of the explosions was measured at 2.3 and 2.1 on the Richter scale, respectively, which is probably equivalent to an explosive charge of hundreds of kilograms,” the two Scandinavian countries denounced in a statement to the Security Council of the UN, which meets this Friday in New York to discuss the issue, at the request of Russia.

“All available information indicates that the explosions are the result of a deliberate act”, can be read in the document from Sweden and Denmark sent to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, without naming a possible person responsible, when Washington and Moscow They deny their responsibility. the explosions

The leaks were discovered in international waters east of the Danish island of Bornholm on Monday, two of which are located in Sweden’s exclusive economic zones and two others in Denmark.

According to the document sent to the UN, the two leaks in the Nord Stream pipeline should be controlled on Sunday.

The Nord Stream AG consortium -which operates the pipeline- indicated in a statement on Thursday night that “it will begin to assess the damage caused to the pipeline as soon as it receives the necessary official authorizations”, that is, “when the pressure in the the gas pipeline is stabilized and the gas leak ends”.
