Restaurant in Kramatorsk hit by Russian bombing

Two Russian missiles hit a restaurant in the center of the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk at a busy time of day on Tuesday.

“Two rockets were fired at the city of Kramatorsk (…), at a catering establishment in the center of the city, where a large number of civilians were”said the governor of the Donetsk region, Pavlo Kyrylenko, on television.

“We are now going to work on site to determine the number of injured and possible victims”he added.

An AFP reporter saw a major mobilization of ambulances, police and military, as well as numerous residents gathered in front of the bombed-out Ria Pizza restaurant.

A chef covered in dust, Roslan, 32, said that at the time of the attack “there were quite a few people” in the restaurant and, pointing to herself, added: “I was lucky.”

One woman, Natalia, tearfully said her brother Nikita, 23, was in the pizza-making area and rescuers “can’t pull him out of the rubble.”

A pre-war city of 150,000, Kramatorsk is the last major Ukrainian-controlled urban center in the east of the country and is about 30 kilometers from the front line.
