According to data from the French Ministry of the Interior, 667 people have been arrested in France during the third consecutive night of protests following the death of a 17-year-old by police.
“Last night, our policemen, gendarmes and firefighters again bravely had a [noite de] rare violence. Under my strict instructions, they made 667 arrests,” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter.

At least 242 arrests were made in the Paris region, with most of the detainees aged between 14 and 18.
The police received “systematic instructions to intervene,” the minister wrote in a post on the social network Twitter, expressing his support for French security forces “who are doing courageous work”.
At around 3 a.m. (2 a.m. in Lisbon), the situation in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris, remained tense for the third consecutive night, the news channel BFMTV reported, noting that police and firefighters were still on the scene.

Thousands of people protested the death of 17-year-old Nahel in Nanterre on Thursday, the same day the French government announced the deployment of 40,000 police officers to contain violence in the country.
