French President Emmanuel Macron will leave the European Council early and return to Paris for an emergency meeting over protests that broke out after the death of a 17-year-old boy shot by police.
French diplomatic sources revealed to Lusa that Macron should leave the Council meeting at 1:00 p.m. local time (12:00 p.m. in Lisbon) and return to the French capital.
The emergency meeting serves to find a response to the protests between young people and the police that broke out in neighborhoods of Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris, and others in the French capital, over the death of a 17-year-old boy shot by police on Tuesday fair.
For this reason, the French president dispensed with the usual press conference at the end of the European summit.
The conflicts began on Tuesday night in Nanterre and, in the early hours of Thursday, there were records of buildings destroyed and cars set on fire.
Authorities have arrested hundreds of people since Thursday night across France.
The police officer suspected of the young man’s death is charged with murder and is in custody.
