2006 Oscar winner Alan Arkin dies

With a career spanning more than seven decades, American actor Alan Arkin passed away this Friday at the age of 89 at his home in the city of Carlsbad, California, USA. The information was confirmed by their children.

In a joint statement, the actor’s children, Adam, Matthew and Anthony, say they will be greatly missed: “Our father was a true force of nature, both as an artist and as a man. A good husband, father, grandmother and great-grandfather , he was loved and will be sorely missed.”

As a member of Chicago’s comedy troupe Second City, Arkin achieved screen success with the 1966 Cold War parody “The Russians Come! The Russians Come”.

But he reached the pinnacle of his career with his role in the movie “A Family on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” which guaranteed him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2006, for playing Olive’s grandfather.

In 2013, he received another Oscar nomination for his role in the movie “Argo”.

One of his most recent works was an appearance in the Netflix movie “The Kominsky Method”, where he starred with Michael Douglas.

Arkin was born in 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, to a family of Jews from Russia and Germany. His father was an artist and writer, and his mother was a teacher. It made its first theatrical appearance in Fred Sears’ musical “Calypso Heat Wave” in 1957.

The causes of Alan Arkin’s death have not been revealed.
