The images in which the young Frenchman is shot dead by a policeman, recorded by witnesses, sparked strong outrage in France, which culminated in protests in the streets, mainly in social housing in large cities and in the metropolitan region of Paris. .
The clashes in France against the security forces began on Tuesday night in Nanterre and, since then, have been recorded daily with thousands of people in the streets.
On Saturday, the fifth consecutive night of riots in France, at least 719 people were arrested and 45 police officers were injured, the Interior Ministry reported today.
In a publication on his personal account on the social network Twitter, the French Interior Minister, Gérard Darmanin, indicated that, despite the incidents, the night from Saturday to today was calmer than the previous ones, a fact that, in his opinion , is due to a greater presence of security forces in the streets.
Nahel’s funeral ceremonies took place on Saturday in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris, with a private wake, ceremony at the mosque and burial in a local cemetery, attended by hundreds of people.
The police officer suspected of killing the young man, accused of manslaughter, has been arrested and will remain in custody.
