A 24-year-old firefighter died this morning in France while fighting a fire in an underground car park in Saint-Denis, in the Paris metropolitan area.
“A young corporal of the Paris fire brigade has died, despite the very rapid response of the team” of which he was a part,” Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter on Monday.

The fire that reached several cars was one of 352 fires started last night on public roads, after the sixth consecutive night of riots sparked by the death of a teenager shot by police in Nanterre.
The French press describes a quieter night between Sunday and Monday, with the mobilization of 45,000 police and gendarmes (militarized police) throughout the country.
At least 157 people were arrested, according to the provisional balance of this Monday, which brings the number of detainees to 3,354 since the beginning of the demonstrations.
So far, 5,000 vehicles have been set on fire and more than a thousand buildings have been burned or damaged.
French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, and seven government ministers met this Sunday night in an emergency meeting for an “update on the situation.”
This Monday, Macron should meet with the presidents of the Senate (upper house of the French parliament), Gérard Larcher, and of the National Assembly (lower house), Yaël Braun-Pivet.
The French head of state will receive some 200 mayors from the municipalities affected by the riots in recent days at the Elysée on Tuesday.
Nahel Merzouk, 17, died last Tuesday in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris, after a traffic control operation.
The young man was driving in the bus lane, having been detained by the police, but did not comply with the order. One of the officers shot Nahel, hitting him in the arm and chest, killing him.
