Russia says it killed 20,000 Ukrainian troops in Zaporijia

Russia’s occupying authorities in Zaporijia, southern Ukraine, said Monday they caused 20,000 deaths in Ukrainian forces by repelling all attacks on this battlefront.

“The enemy has lost more than 20,000 men according to preliminary data,” Yevgeny Balitsky, the Russian governor of Zaporijia, said in a message on the Telegram platform.

According to Balitsky, the situation in the sector near Orikhiv remains “tense” with intense daily attacks by Ukrainian forces.

“They spare no soldiers,” said Balitsky, commenting on Kiev’s counter-offensive in that direction.

Information provided by the parties about the situation on the fronts cannot be immediately and independently confirmed.

In the same communication, the representative insisted that “the enemy has no success”, despite having used all its strength for “at least one small victory” and being accountable to the West.

Russian Defense Minister Serguei Shoigu said on Monday that Ukraine’s offensive potential is diminishing and that the enemy army has not achieved its objectives on any of the fronts within the counterattack that began on June 4.

However, the Ukrainian defense ministry announced on Monday that the army had cleared more than 158 square kilometers in the south of the country last week.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, which started on February 24 last year, plunged into Europe in what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
