A Russian missile attack on a residential building killed three people and wounded eight in Lviv, in western Ukraine, near the border with Poland, the city’s mayor said.
“There are already three dead,” said Andriy Sadovyi, in a message posted on the Telegram platform, after reporting “eight injuries,” including “one person in serious condition.”
The emergency services were mobilized and found three bodies in the rubble of the building, said the mayor, who admitted that “there may be more people under the rubble”, since around 60 homes and 50 vehicles were damaged.
The head of the regional administration, Maksym Kozytsky, described the incident as a “direct attack on a residential building” carried out by Russian forces.
In the images shared by Kozytsky, one building appears badly damaged, with parts of the upper floors destroyed and windows broken.
The leader added that the attack started a fire, which was quickly extinguished, and caused cuts in the supply of electricity and access to mobile telecommunications.
Despite being several hundred kilometers from the front lines, Lviv and the surrounding region have come under attack since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022.
On the night of June 19-20 this year, drones (unmanned combat aerial vehicles) attacked “critical infrastructure” in Lviv, Maksym Kozytskyi reported at the time.
Five people died in March in a shooting attack in a residential area of Velyka Vilchanytsia in the Lviv region.
