The French police officer who killed teenager Nahel on June 27 in Nanterre, France, denied threatening to shoot him in the head before firing, according to legal documents consulted by AFP on Thursday.
The 38-year-old officer, Florian M., told the police’s Internal Investigation Service (IGPN) that he did not utter the words “you’ll get a bullet in the head,” according to a transcript.
Investigators believe this sentence came from another officer present at the scene, and digital verification of the video is underway.
Florian M. said he fired because he was afraid the driver of the car, 17-year-old Nahel, would start and “drag” his colleague with him.
The pre-trial detention of the policeman, charged with voluntary manslaughter, was extended this Thursday by an appeals court in Versailles, on the outskirts of Paris.
