The first evaluation of the firefighters points to an accidental fire, but the possible causes were not advanced.
The mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, explained to journalists at the scene that the fire appears to have started in a room where two women were, the only victims with burns. The flames were contained in that room, but the smoke spread to the entire building where almost 200 people were.
