The death toll in a building collapse in Brazil has risen to eight

The death toll after the collapse of a building in Paulista, in the Greater Recife region, on Friday morning has now risen to eight.

In the past few hours, authorities have recovered the bodies of two children, aged 5 and 8, and two youths, aged 17 and 21.

According to the G1 website, Deivison Soares da Silva, 19, was rescued alive but died in hospital. the young man’s mother, aged 43, is also one of the fatalities in this incident.

The collapse occurred at 6:10 a.m. local time on Friday, and according to information from the fire department, one of the buildings collapsed completely, while the other suffered partial damage.

According to some residents, the building was banned by court order, but began to be improperly reoccupied in 2012.

Firefighters, volunteers and sniffer dogs are participating in the searches.
