British singer Elton John said goodbye to the stage and millions of fans on Saturday evening with a concert in Stockholm, Sweden, in which he thanked everyone for “52 years of pure music pleasure”.
Before saying goodbye, Elton John sang “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, one of his historic songs.
At the age of 76, the British singer, winner of five Grammys, more than 50 years of career and 4,600 performances around the world, ended the tours in order, he said, to devote more time to his personal life.
“I will always carry you in my mind, in my heart and in my soul,” Elton John said to the millions of fans, directly to the thousands who filled the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, where he performed for two nights.
According to the Swedish press, the artist, dressed in a costume inlaid with beautiful stones and wearing large glasses, opened his last performance with “Bennie and the jets”, in a concert that lasted more than two hours.
Elton John also paid tribute to his bandmates, some of whom have been with him for a long time and whom he considered “the best, absolutely the best”.
Another surprise of the evening was the fact that the band Coldplay, who are also on tour in Sweden, called Elton John from the Ullevi stage in Gothenburg.
“We will miss you very much,” said singer Chris Martin, to the applause of the audience.
Elton John, smiling at the giant screens of the stadium, thanked the words and replied that Chris Martin was “a great person”.
Elton John’s farewell tour began in 2018 and is estimated to have seen more than six million people.
“Bennie and the Jets” and “Candle in the wind”, along “Rocket Man”, “The bitch is back”, “I’m still standing”, “Crocodile rock” and “Saturday night’s alright for fight”, became some of the songs that marked the tour.
One of the highlights of the tour was their visit to the Glastonbury festival with an “emotional” and packed show that was also their last concert in the UK.
