Six people killed in private jet crash in California

Six people were killed Saturday morning when a private jet crashed into a field in Southern California, in the United States, when the plane caught fire, local authorities said.

The plane was on fire in an area of ​​about half an acre of vegetation when police arrived. The plane crashed near an airport in the city of Murrieta, California, in southwestern Riverside County, located between Los Angeles and San Diego.

The flight took off from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas before crashing in the countryside, Los Angeles broadcaster KTLA reported. The plane was a Cessna C550 business jet, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The plane’s six occupants were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after authorities found the plane engulfed in flames after 4:15 a.m. local time (12:15 a.m. Lisbon), the Riverside County Fire Department said. The identities of those killed in the accident have not been released.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating the accident.

Saturday morning’s plane crash was the second fatal accident near French Valley Airport. One man was killed and three injured when a plane slammed into the side of a building near the airport on Tuesday.
