Russia said on Sunday it repelled a Ukrainian attack on a bridge in Crimea and a military airport in Russia’s southern Rostov region with “S-200” missiles.
According to the report of the Chief of Staff of the Russian Air Force, Colonel General Victor Afzalov, the two missiles were shot down by anti-aircraft fire, the Ministry of Defense wrote on the appropriate channel on the Telegram social network.
Two other “S-200” missiles were diverted from their targets by electronic countermeasures and landed without damage or destruction, the report added.
The Soviet-made ‘S-200’ are anti-aircraft missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers that can be suitable for attacking ground targets.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General Valeri Gerasimov, ordered to attack the places where the Ukrainian army has installed bases for launching missiles “S-200” and the like and to take additional defense measures against attacks from the sky.
The Ministry of Defense has released video of the online meeting at which Gerasimov issued the orders, the Russian general’s first public appearance since the failed uprising by Wagner Group mercenaries on June 23 and 24.
