Italian Authorities Dismantle Palermo Mafia Clan

A judge in Palermo, Italy, authorized the arrest of “18 alleged members of the Resuttana clan”, one of the richest in the Sicilian capital, for alleged involvement in organized crime.

The suspects are under investigation for alleged “mafia association, extortion, drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms, among other crimes,” reports the Italian news agency ANSA.

At least 16 people from the same family are already in custody and another two are under house arrest awaiting trial.

According to ANSA, the investigation dismantled one of the “richest clans in the region of the Sicilian capital.”

“They have the city in their hands,” said one of the people who were being investigated in connection with the activities of the Resuttana clan, indicating that the Italian agency cites details of the investigation that included the recording of telephone contacts.
