A worrisome heat wave is hitting southern California earlier this week, as temperature records are relentless across the US, from Texas to Tampa, Florida. The National Weather Service issued excessive heat advisories for southern and central California, with temperatures reaching 110 degrees Fahrenheit in parts of Los Angeles as of Tuesday.
“Plan your life ahead so you can stay safe from the heat. Make sure your animals have access to shade and water. Never leave children or pets in a parked car,” the National Weather Service advised on Twitter.
This phenomenon occurs after the world temperature records were broken last week. On July 6, the planet’s mean surface temperature was 17.23°C, an unofficial record, according to Mayne University’s Climate Reanalyzer tool, which uses a combination of observations and computer modeling.
Climate change scientists have warned of the impact of human-caused global warming, warning that 2023 is on track to become the warmest year on record.
