Six people have died after a helicopter carrying tourists crashed near Mount Everest in Nepal, according to local authorities.
Basanta Bhattarai, the top government administrator in the region, said rescue teams recovered six bodies in the Lamajura area where the helicopter crashed.
The helicopter was carrying five tourists on a sightseeing tour of the world’s highest peak and returning to the capital Kathmandu.
The tourists will be of Mexican nationality, while the pilot was Nepali.
An airport official said weather conditions forced the helicopter to change its flight path.
Flights are often delayed and routes change during the monsoon season due to heavy rain.
The tourist and mountaineering season ended in May with the start of the rainy season and tourist flights to the mountains are not common at this time of the year, as visibility becomes poor and weather conditions are unpredictable.
