At least 1,350 migrants have landed on Lampedusa in the past 24 hours

Some 1,350 migrants have arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa in the past 24 hours, with the reception center housing more than 2,000 after continuous disembarkations in recent days.

During the night, according to the Italian press, the coastguard located seven precarious boats with about 350 people who had disembarked in Lampedusa.

Last Monday there were 23 landings with a total of 1,007 people.

In the last ships rescued last night, authorities say between 45 and 70 people of Syrian, Moroccan, Tunisian and Senegalese descent, as well as citizens of the Ivory Coast and Liberia, disembarked.

Some groups reported departing from Sfax, in Tunis, and another ship with 70 people on board, including nine women and 11 minors, departed from Kerkennah, also in Tunisia.

The reception center on the Italian island appears to be full again.

According to the Italian Ministry of the Interior, the regional government delegation in Agrigento, to which Lampedusa belongs, ordered the transfer of 600 migrants to the ports of Messina and Reggio Calabria and another 300 boarded a ferry to Porto Empedocle .

Last Sunday, the ship belonging to the Spanish non-governmental organization Open Arms arrived at the anchorage in Brindisi, in the Apulia region of southern Italy, which had rescued 299 people in six operations in recent days, including 90 minors and 23 women.

The migrants rescued by Open Arms come from Sudan, Eritrea, Egypt, Ethiopia, Syria, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mali.

Data updated last Monday, published by the government of Italy, indicates that 71,601 migrants have arrived on the Italian coast since the beginning of the year.

In the same period last year, 30,939 people disembarked in Italy.
