There are lucky days. A simple school trip turned into a full afternoon for a 12-year-old student at the Instituto de Educação e Cultura de Carmo do Rio Claro, Brazil. During a visit to a disused gold mine, Álvaro Henrique found a gold nugget.
Álvaro was on an excursion with 40 other colleagues. But he was the big lucky man of the day. While descending from the mine, the student noticed that one stone had a different glow.
“With a very great power of observation, he noticed another glow between a rock, pointed and asked if it was gold. Our guide continued his explanation, saying, among other things, that the mine had been unusable for decades,” explains the professor.
Curious, Álvaro didn’t give up because he realized that glow was strange. “The student insisted and when he called the mine manager, it turned out that it was indeed a nugget,” explained the teacher, confessing that the guide went to the mine every day and never realized that there was a nugget in the place, not least because the site has long since been shut down.
However, the nugget already has a destination. Everyone agreed that it will be kept in the school as it is cultural heritage and will be displayed in a place in the educational institution to understand how gold is mined.
“As a history buff, I try to make cultural tours related to the subjects taught. The descent to the bottom of the mine already revealed a climate of great adrenaline and enthusiasm among the students, and the depth of 60 meters was quickly reached,” said the professor. .
