Belarus confirms that the Wagner group will train with its armed forces

The government of Belarus confirmed on Tuesday that members of the Wagner group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, will participate in training maneuvers of the armed forces, a few weeks after the uprising of these mercenaries in Russia.

The Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced this in a statement on the social network Telegram “As soon as the representatives of the Wagner Group arrive and are placed in the training camps, for mutual exchange of experience, it is expected that special attention will be paid to combat techniques and methods by the Armed Forces of Belarus.”

The ministry stressed that “preparations are being completed” for the arrival of Russian soldiers for “combat coordination” tasks and training, within the framework of close military-level cooperation between Moscow and Minsk.

The announcement comes after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko played the role of a mediator after the June 24 uprising led by Prigozhin, whose troops advanced on the Russian capital.

Hours after the riot, the parties reached an agreement that provided for the withdrawal of the members of the Wagner Group with a view to their eventual integration into the army and the withdrawal of charges against those involved in the uprising.

Although initially there was information that the leader of the Wagner Group could have settled on the territory of Belarus last week Lukashenko admitted that Prigozhin was in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

On Monday, the Kremlin confirmed that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin and the leader of the Wagner Group had met on June 29 to discuss the events of June 24.
