Zelensky calls for “justice” to defend the use of cluster bombs

Ukraine’s president acknowledged on Wednesday that there is disagreement within NATO over the availability of cluster bombs by the United States, but pointed out that “there must be justice” as Russia also uses them.

“I know that there are people who do not share this support, but I wanted us to look at this from a justice perspective. Russia has always used this ammunition in our areas, they kill our people with it, on our territory they use occupied,” supported Volodymyr Zelensky at a joint press conference with Atlantic Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the last day of the alliance summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

“There must be justice and it is not fair that the aggressor who occupies our territory uses them,” he added.

Flanked by the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Ukrainian president pledged that these bombs would only be used “against military personnel” from Russia within Ukraine’s occupied territory.

“I want to thank the United States, I know it was a challenge and there are people in Congress who do not share this support,” Volodymyr Zelensky completed.
