Guterres sends proposal to Putin to expand grain agreement

UN Secretary General António Guterres has sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a proposal to facilitate Russian exports of food and Ukrainian fertilizer and grain, his spokesman said on Wednesday.

According to the spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, the letter was sent on Tuesday and the focus of the proposal is “to harmonize the vital implementation of the MoU with the vital need to maintain the Black Sea grains initiative.”

“The goal is to remove obstacles affecting financial transactions through the Agricultural Bank of Russia, one of the main concerns expressed by the Russian Federation, while allowing the continuous flow of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea,” he said. Dujarric.
