The Ukrainian army took full control of the city of Lyman, in the Donetsk region annexed by Russia, a day after the withdrawal of Russian troops, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday.

Russia announced the withdrawal of its forces from Lyman on Saturday, shortly after the Ukrainian army said it had surrounded thousands of Russian soldiers in the area.
“Threatened by siege, Allied troops were withdrawn from Lyman to more favorable positions,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, referring to a post where Moscow-controlled forces had deployed around 5,000 soldiers.
