PJ in international drug trafficking operation where 1.5 tons of cocaine was seized

The Judicial Police (PJ) took part in an international operation to combat drug trafficking by sea, which ended in the arrest of 12 suspected traffickers and the seizure of approximately 1.5 tons of cocaine.

According to a statement released this Friday by the National Directorate of the PJ, “Operation White Sea III” took place between June 11 and July 12, tracking the movements of 779 ships, conducting 79 search and inspection operations and eight cocaine seizures. .

The operation targeted the various ‘modi operandi’ used by criminal organizations to bring drugs into Europe and targeted the movements of ships in certain locations on the Atlantic coast of the European continent, in the English Channel, in the North Sea, as in activities carried out in some seaports.

This operation was included in one of the action plans of the European Union’s European Multidisciplinary Platform against Criminal Threats (EMPCAT) and involved the participation of the authorities of Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Poland and The United Kingdom. .

In addition, it was carried out jointly and with the support of Frontex, Europol and the Maritime Analysis and Operations Center – Narcotic (MAOC-N), based in Lisbon, the PJ statement said, acting through the National Combat Unit to combat drug trafficking.
