Russia’s Defense Ministry on Sunday denounced a powerful attack by Ukrainian “drones” (unmanned aerial vehicles) against the Crimean city of Sevastopol, the base of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, saying they had all been “neutralised”.

“An attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack against targets on the territory of the Crimean peninsula near the city of Sevastopol with seven unmanned aerial vehicles and two unmanned semi-submersibles was thwarted this morning,” the ministry said. , in a statement.

According to the report, two ‘drones’ were destroyed by air defenses and five others were neutralized by electronic means without reaching their target.

Also in the northern part of the Black Sea, two unmanned ships belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces were discovered and evacuated.

“As a result of the thwarted terrorist attack, there were no casualties or damage,” the Russian ministry said.

Earlier, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev also reported the attack, which he described as “massive and protracted”.

Since last October’s attack that damaged the Kerch bridge connecting Crimea to Russia, the annexed peninsula has been the target of frequent drone and missile attacks.
