As a result of the closure of the bridge to traffic, a traffic jam formed at its entrance but its length was reduced to 3 kilometers, the state news agency RIA Novosti reported early Monday morning, which collects information from the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory. without specifying which entry it was.
A coordination center has been set up within a Crimean ministry and investigators are on the scene, Russian state news agency TASS reported, citing local authorities.
Also on Telegram, the governor of Russia’s Belgorod oblast, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said two people, a man and a woman, died during the accident. This information could not be verified at this time.
• A claim from Kyiv?
Hours after the incident, Russia accused, as it invariably does with every incursion or attack on its territory, Ukraine of carrying out an attack on the bridge.
In the process, a source from the Ukrainian security services (SBU) confirmed to AFP that the Ukrainian special services and naval forces were indeed at the origin of the attack, carried out with drones.
“Today’s attack on the Crimean bridge is a special operation by the SBU and the navy,” the source told AFP, adding that “the bridge was attacked by naval drones.”
Again, in the absence of any official communication from the Ukrainian administration, this claim cannot be confirmed.
• A symbolic bridge
This is not the first time that the Kerch Bridge has been attacked on the sidelines of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Inaugurated in 2018, four years after the annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia, it has become the symbol of the region’s attachment to Moscow and, conversely, a provocation for the Kiev regime.
In October 2022, a huge explosion already affected the infrastructure, causing extensive damage to the bridge. Once again, the Russian authorities launched an investigation that again blamed Ukraine. For its part, kyiv had always denied being at the origin of the explosion.
