Kiev rejects “abstract peace” that Russia can impose

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba this Tuesday at the UN rejected calls for an “abstract peace” from several countries and commentators, as they are mainly aimed at favoring Russia.

“We keep hearing some calls for abstract peace, but the majority don’t really mean peace, but something else,” Kuleba said in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly, convened to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

According to the minister, if someone asks Kiev to sit down at the negotiating table and end the war, “they are basically saying that Russia can keep the country it stole and continue to kill, torture, rape and intimidate the people of the occupied territories”.

“Others cynically say that Ukraine is prolonging the war. What they are really saying is that Ukraine should surrender and let Russia end its genocide as soon as possible,” he insisted.

“We also hear voices calling for an end to the supply of arms to Ukraine, as it does not promote peace. It sounds fantastic, but what these people really mean is to leave Ukraine defenseless,” he added.

Kuleba stressed that after enduring almost a year and a half of war, Ukraine’s answer to all these suggestions is “no and no again”.

“No to genocide under the pretext of peace. No to false pacifism that justifies the crimes of the aggressor. No to territorial concessions in the perspective of an illusion of peace,” he added.

In his speech, Kuleba once again denounced the suffering of the civilian population, resorted to the testimonies of war-affected children and asked all governments, which have not yet taken a decision, to abandon neutrality and consider in line with the security guarantees for the country. promised by the G7 members.

Russia, which then intervened, believed that continuing the war was the responsibility of Volodymyr Zelensky’s “puppet regime”, and especially of the Western powers.

“Today in Ukraine, Russia faces above all Washington and its NATO allies, who are waging an indirect war against Russia until the last Ukrainian fall,” said UN Deputy Ambassador Dmitry Polianskiy.

The diplomat also believed that the West must understand that it will not win the war on the battlefield and reiterated that Moscow will remain in the neighboring country until all the objectives of its intervention are achieved.
