Inflation rate moderates in June in the euro area and the EU

The year-on-year inflation rate in the euro zone slows down in June to 5.5% and that of the European Union to 6.4%, compared to 6.1% and 7.1% in May, respectively, according to data released today by Eurostat.

In June 2022, the annual inflation rate in the Eurozone was 8.6% in the Eurozone and 9.6% in the EU.

According to the European statistical service, which for the euro zone confirmed the rate that it had advanced in the June 30 advance, the food, alcohol and tobacco component registered the highest year-on-year inflation rate (11.6%, compared to 12 .5% in May), followed by non-energy industrial goods (5.5%, compared to 5.8%), services (which went from 5.0% to 5.4% from May to June), and energy (with a deflation of 5.6% compared to 1.8% in May).

The core inflation rate (excluding energy and unprocessed food), on the other hand, fell to 6.8%, from 6.9% in May.

The highest inflation rates -measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP)- were registered in June in Hungary (19.9%), Slovakia (11.3%) and the Czech Republic (11.2%) and the lowest in Luxembourg (1.0%). ), Belgium and Spain (1.6% each).

In Portugal, the year-on-year inflation rate measured by the HICP (which allows comparisons between different countries) fell in June to 4.7%, compared to 5.4% in May and 9.0% in June 2022 .

The inflation rate in the Eurozone has accelerated since June 2021, mainly due to higher energy prices, and has reached record levels since November 2021, with the first decline being recorded in November 2022.

In June it registered the second consecutive slowdown, after a slight increase in April.
