The cabin crew of the easyJet airline began a strike this Friday that will last until Tuesday to demand conditions similar to those of the airline’s bases in other countries.
On July 6, easyJet’s proposal was ‘successful’ by 90% of the cabin crew of the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC).
The SNPVAC stated at that moment that “there is no more room for negotiation”, leaving no alternative “but to declare a strike notice for the next July 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25.”
The easyJet cabin crew will thus star in the third strike in recent months, after a stoppage in April and another at the end of May and beginning of June, demanding similar conditions for the crew of the Portuguese bases to those of the bases of other countries .
After months of meetings with the company, the SNPVAC admits to being aligned with some points of the easyJet proposal, but does not understand the company’s position regarding the base salary, “which represents almost two thirds” of the total salary.
“We deeply regret that the company continues to believe that an FA [tripulante de cabine, na sigla inglesa] The Portuguese should receive, at the end of the three years of increases, 90% less base salary than a French colleague”, stressed the SNPVAC.
The union later said that easyJet had canceled, until July 10, 350 flights on the days scheduled for the strike period, corresponding to 69% of the flights that would leave Porto, Lisbon and Faro.
easyJet, for its part, expressed disappointment with the strike and accused the union of continuing with impractical demands, demanding raises “that show no sense of reality.”
“We are extremely disappointed that SNPVAC is planning further strikes, despite our willingness to engage in constructive dialogue with the aim of reaching a sustainable agreement,” the airline said in a statement, adding that despite their efforts, the union’s demands “stand.” impractical, with proposed increases lacking any sense of reality”.
